PERFECT FIT

SMALL DOES NOT HAVE TO BE ORDINARY

FEATURING: Original fir floors, white cabinets, honed black granite countertops, decorative glass mosaic, farm sink, mahogany lighted buffet.

Small kitchen in Portland bungalow

This compact kitchen packs everything you need in a small footprint and still manages to have room for an eating area and a serving buffet.

Beautiful glass mosaic focal point.

Microwave oven, toaster, coffee maker all tuck behind the refrigerator out of the direct line of sight in the kitchen.

Farm-style sink adds vintage detail.

Even a small kitchen can have a lovely place to drink coffee and peruse the newspaper, or sip on a glass of wine by the garden.

The mahogany lighted hutch fits perfectly with the bungalow style and adds a "wow" factor when entering the kitchen.

The sight line from the living room.

Lazy-Susan Corner Cabinet - a must for a small kitchen to squeeze as much storage as possible.

REMODELING OUTSIDE THE HOUSE: DECK, TRELLIS, FENCE AND ARBOR

Outdoor living can be a refined luxury, but so often a deck or fence is relegated to second class. It's time to revamp your outdoor space to premium comfort.

This beautiful Red Miranti Mahogany deck glistens in the rain.

Back Steps

What a beautiful solution for steps going out onto a patio.

Matched Deck & Railing

We matched the stain on the cedar handrail and stairs to match the Yellow Balau Mahogany deck so that it all flows together visually.

Outdoor Living with African Ipé Deck

This patio decking is African Ipé. It is very strong and hard: so hard that we have to pre-drill all the screw holes. I love the rich rusty brown color of the wide 1 x 6 boards.

We added white columns on the corners and an arbor above to surround the back patio "living room". In the middle of the summer the arbor porvides protection from the hot sun. The owner installed an outdoor natural gas heater so they can enjoy their fabulous lake view all year round.

Finishing Touches
More ideas on how to transform a simple walkway into something very special and inviting.

Arbor & Fence
How about building an arbor along with the water feature to really dress it up?

Easy Maintenance
For those of you who want a low maintenance deck, this is the best looking material that I have seen. It is Timbertech 1 x 6 decking with its companion white handrail.

Synthetic Timbertech Deck & Railing
To the casual observer, this Timbertech decking looks like cedar, but with none of the upkeep.

Although the initial material and labor investment is more than traditional wood materials, it is a great solution for people who have no time or interest in maintenance.

RESCUING THE SHOWER

We transformed a tired 1960's shower into a roomy and luxurious hotspot.

It’s the perfect location, it’s the perfect ranch house, and it’s the perfect yard.

BUT: it’s also a 1960’s master bathroom in that strange pinky color. The shower is a walled-in, claustrophobic booth, dimly lit, with a low ceiling and obscure shower glass. Not to mention the worn-out grout that no matter how hard you scrub, it never looks clean! How do we bring the master bath into the 21st century?

Washed Out

CRAMPED SPACE
Low hung ceiling

TOO DIM TO BATHE
Obscure glass

STAINED GROUT
Permanently dirty

Shower Power
Imagine it feeling luxuriously spacious and bright; appearing glistening clean and easy to keep that way—no longer the dated pink, but the colors of sand and water and sunshine. The sprayer sends out a vigorous stream of ample hot water. It might even have multiple showerheads and a hand-held sprayer. In fact, a great shower is one of life’s pure pleasures, daily sensual enjoyment.

Room to Spare
How do we get from a weary 1960's shower to a first class 2009 shower? Modern tastes value the large master bathroom, but this existing bathroom was limited to a tiny footprint. Why not steal some space from the adjacent hall bathroom that had room to spare? Now the shower could expand to a size worthy of a master suite.

Let There Be Light
To create an even bigger illusion of space, we traded in the tile walls for clear shower glass to allow light in. (By the way, shower glass is much less expensive than tile.) Now, instead of staring at dim shower walls, the eyes can rest on the lovely new vanity with the durable easy-to-clean granite countertop, and the sparkling new polished chrome faucet. Every once in a while the eye will catch a sparkle of blue crystal embedded in the granite slab that picks up on the watery blue tile accent dots in the shower. How perfect!

Rise and Shine
So now, after all the work is completed, the perfect ranch house in the perfect location with the perfect yard has the perfect master bath! Life is good.
